To cater for the needs of our ever expanding community Maynooth GAA club, in conjunction with Maynooth Post Primary School, undertook development of the site on the Moyglare Road to include 5 pitches, a 1.5km walking track with changing and toilet facilities. The provision of such top class grounds will significantly benefit Maynooth.

At present, we have 2 ½ pitches servicing the training and playing needs of over 65 club teams, as well as being available to our local schools to support their needs. This is clearly a chronic lack of facilities to support the needs of our community.

As we receive no state funding, we are completely dependent on the goodwill of the people of Maynooth to fund the development of these pitches.

We have now applied for a 2014 Capital Grant from the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport to help us complete Phase 2 of this critical development. Maynooth GAA has never received a Capital Grant to support our development needs in the past.

We are appealing to our local representatives to support this grant application. The community of Maynooth badly need these facilities, and we need all of our local representatives to ensure our voice and needs are heard.

im honestly blown away by how much this has taken off in the last few days. it feels like the whole town is finally getting behind the new pitches which is exactly what we needed to keep the pressure on.

Maynooth is large town with a massively growing population at a younger age. What Maynooth GAA are undertaking will service the community for decades to come. Given the investment a communicity is willing to invest in itself I really believe that a similar investment should be placed to support these efforts.

This is a fantastic joint venture between Maynooth GAA and our schools. It will offer excellent facilities to the youth of Maynooth and will be an asset for the youth of Maynooth generations to come. The granting of funding in my opinion is essential as the long term benefits for the Community need to be considered.

This entrepreneurial spirit, vision and drive from volunteers who want to make a difference in our community must be supported by government so that our children and grand children can prosper in our National sport
