Local Community Organisations should have been given the opportunity to tender for this year's Masters Games Bar

WE HAVE HAD A WIN!!! With the Support and persuasion of Minister for Sport & Rec/Minister for Central Australia, Karl Hampton, Major Events has overturned their decision and decided to open the Masters Games Bars up for tender to local groups. Thank you all for your assistance in this matter!

Over the years, local Alice Springs sporting, service and community organisations have had the opportunity to run the bars at the opening and closing ceremonies for the Alice Springs Masters Games. In 2008, the Apex Club of Central Australia and Federals Sports Club tendered and were awarded the rights. Approximately $70,000 net profit was made, which subsequently went straight back to the local community by means of donations, sponsorship and charitable deeds.
This year, Northern Territory Major Events has awarded (through no tender process) the event to a private businessman.
The money generated should stay in Alice Springs, with local community groups running it - or at least having the opportunity to do so!
