The Maryland Foster Youth Resource Center (MFYRC) connects transitioning foster youth (ages 17-25) with life skills resources and long-term solutions, and empowers youth to create systems change through leadership and advocacy. Founded in 2008 by a former foster youth, the purpose of the Maryland Foster Youth Resource Center is to help youth make a successful transition from foster care to independence. MFYRC assists former foster youth with housing, connection to educational and employment resources and supportive networks that will allow them to achieve and sustain stability in their adult lives.

MFYRC is quickly outgrowing our current office space and was in the process of aquiring a property that we would have to raise a substantial amount of money to purchase and renovate when we were informed that the Annie E. Casey Foundation may be looking to donate the Casey Family Serivices building in Baltimor e to a like-minded community organization. MFYRC has developed and maintained a partnership with Casey Family Services in Baltimore over the past few years and was very sad to hear that operations are due to cease as of December 31, 2012; however MFYRC’s serves as an extension or continuation of the work Casey Family Services supported -- improving the lives of children and youth involved in the child welfare system, particularly foster care.

 Acquiring the Casey Family Services building will provide the MFYRC with a facility to adequately meet its programmatic and operational needs and deliver quality services on behalf of Maryland’s youth. Please sign our Petition in support of our receiving this building! The work we do for and with transitioning and former foster youth in Baltimore (and throughout Maryland) is so very vital. This building has EVERYTHING we need. With your help the Maryland Foster Youth Resource Center (like many of the youth we serve) may finally have a place to call home.
