We would like your support in asking the city of Santa Clarita to consider making safety improvements for pedestrians and bicyclists on Market Street in Newhall. The specific area of concern is on the hilly stretch closer to Cross Street where cars drive faster than the speed limit and there is not a safe shoulder for non-car passage. We are Happy Valley residents, and in talking with the city, we were asked to validate that this is an issue other neighbors would like to see addressed as well. So we need you to support this petition (no account is needed to sign)!*
This issue has been an ongoing discussion for many years, with some potential solutions deemed not feasible. We recognize that there are a number of nuances to this topic based on where you might reside. We are purely asking the city to revisit the conversation and brainstorm potential improvements with residents like us, even if those improvements are minor.
Initial ideas that don't require significant infrastructure include cleaning up brush and debris on the dirt path where possible, adding mirrors to help improve visibility around corners, adding perimeter plastic markers on the perimeter of concrete, adding a crosswalk, adding street paint, adding a second speed tracking sign, adding lighting that won't distract drivers or annoy neighbors but will slow traffic and make it safer for night passage, etc.
A safer Market St. would allow for safer walks and bike rides between the two areas. It would make access to downtown Newhall more convenient, allowing residents to enjoy and support the local businesses more frequently.
We hope you will support this initiative.

Seriously people zoom down this hill like it is the Indy 500. It is just a matter of time before someone gets hit walking to the park. Please fix this.
