It is not common knowledge that every state has different sentencing laws for crimes. For example, if convicted of second degree murder:

Arizona one would be sentenced to no less than 10 but no more than 11 years,

Arkansas 5-20 years

Florida minimum 10 years

Georgia 10-30 years, and finally

Louisiana has an automatic sentence of LIFE WITHOUT PAROLE regardless of ones criminal history.

The crime committed should determine a sentence, not ones geographical location. If a person commits this crime in Arizona why is this persons ability to be rehabilitated stronger than someone in Louisiana who will serve a life sentence without ever recieving the possibility of returning to the free world. Please help me raise awareness regarding this troubling issue that our county faces. If we are one nation, under God, sentencing should be uniform across the board. I appreciate your help in advance to educate as many people as possible. Thank you for your time.

The arbitrary nature of our current sentencing laws is finally getting the attention it deserves. We are proving that common sense must dictate justice instead of leaving it to the lottery of state borders.

My Son was given a 4 life sentence after turning down a 4year plea. In Bartlesville, Okla. For the same thing that I have seen that others get 20 to 30 years for. He has never been in trouble before and this was his first offence.

My soon to be husband was sentenced to 25 years on a 2nd degree murder charge. Absolutely ridiculous. we need to take a stand!

My cousin is doing 30 years in LA for something that would be 10 in other states. This system is so broken. It just depends on where you live.
