As a Licensed Counselor, with all that we have witnessed with Law Enforcement, I believe that in this field of work, they should be required to see a Mental Healh Professional at least 2 a month. This should be covered and not cost them a dime. It should also be required to be assessed prior to them being hired. Something has to give....a have many close friends in law enforcement and I understand the amount of stress. This DOES NOT excuse the excessive use of force or the murder of anyone but we have to do something to find out why and help where we can! #AltonSterling

I just woke up and looked at the page and honestly my heart is pounding because I never thought this specific idea would actually catch fire like this. It is so validating to know I am not the only one thinking about the heavy toll this work takes on people and how much we need a real shift in the system.

As a recent grad of Psychology and studied racial and ethnic relations as well as racial, cultural identity and believe that both would be helpful in assessing and counseling these police officers.
Not only counseling, but maybe guns should stop having real bullets. Pellets can stun and hurt a person without killing them.

I agree that a revised screening process every so often and one of the requirements need to be getting service from a license professional Counselor.
