ALex Langsam should be ashamed of the way he and Britannia Hotels Group have conducted themselves. To allow such an accomplished piece of civic architecture to become so dilapidated is unforgivable.

It's shameful that the Council has not acted before now to save this lovely building and refurbish it as a tourist attraction, or handed it over to English Heritage. Damn Britannia and the Council for their laziness and greed. It's build, build, build - not save, save, save. This building could easily be renovated and earn its keep without resorting to tacky hotels or entertainment centres.

I am a lover of beautiful architecture and would very much like to see the old Fire Station on London Road renovated in future.

One of Manchester's most abused buildings.
It is a huge shame that this asset has been left to rot.

What a shame such a beautiful building has lain to waste all these years. Even as a young girl I would walk by and marvel at the magnificence of this splendid structure, wondering why it wasn't better used as a landmark entrance to our city.
Shame on Britannia Group, English Heritage & Manchester City Council got not rectifying this sooner. Please do so before it's too late!

I find it unacceptable & disgraceful that this building has been owned by such a large & apparently affluent company for so long but still left to rot. These buildings are our heritage!

Britannia Hotels are a disgrace! Britannia Airways changed it's name to avoid confusion with this brand, such is the contempt for the hotel chain!

Clearly an architectural gem full of workmanship that has withstood thirty years of serious neglect and abuse.

Terrible to see such a beautiful building go to waste. Would be a shame to lose it to yet another unimaginitive building such has those currently blighting the city centre.
