Such a beautiful and iconic building deserves to be restored to working order, too many of these buildings are being lost to new soulless buildings which in a 100 years time will have no interest to anyone, unlike this and similar buildings.

I've always travelled past the old station building every time I come into town and go out - on the way to and from Stockport. Often as not this is on the top deck of a 192 and from that vantage point I've always been srtuck by how lovely it is to the poitn that I'd say it was my favourite building in the city centre (against a lot of competition). It's sad that it's not in use after all this time.
Lately I can't help but notice someone appears to have opened virtually every window on the upper floors. I'd love to think that this has been done to keep the building aired, but considering it's been this way through all of the terrible snow and rain we've had since the end of last year (if I put my cynical head on for a moment) I'm concerned that this may have been done to let in the rain, snow, wind and pigeons in so the whole things is beyond saving by the time anyone wants to try and actually do it...anyone from the developers care to put my mind at ease?
My advice would be to go down to London Road with your camera now and take a long last look at this fine building, as I don't expect it to be around for very much longer...

My mum was born in London Road Fire Station in 1933 and she lived there as a small child through the Blitz, whilst her dad was out risking his life putting out the fires to save and protect the people and properties of Manchester City Centre. I took my mum and her sister to the closing ceremony of the Station and it was very interesting and moving. This wonderful historic building must not be left to rot and should be enjoyed by the people and visitors of Manchester!

Wonderful building, used to go to events there when a youngster. Criminal what's been allowed to happen to it. Unfortunately it's typical of what's being allowed by this council totally out of touch with its people

The credence of Britannia Hotels has been found wanting, they cannot be trusted to make good on any future promises and, therefore, I fully support the notion that London Road Fire Station be seized by, and taken under the due care of Manchester Council.

It is a disgrace the this building is being left to crumble. It is part of the city rich landscape and a space that could be used in many different ways to build Manchester profile.

To fight to keep this building, only to refuse to develop it is utterly unconscionable. Britannia Hotels will never see a penny of my money again.

can we please find someone within the MCC with the balls to stand up and do something about this historic building. we require a person who will throw away the book of clauses. and can dos. and cant dos. which is probably as thick as the encyclopedia britanicca. a common sense approach. and tell the britannia group to get on with it. or get out of it. before we finish up with another car park area where this magnificent building stands!!!!

Absolute disgrace such a fine building is left to ruin
