Definitely that our scale should be arranged accordingly and also more workload due to shortage of staff should also be considered.

As nurses we have more responsabilities than the other mentioned therefore i think that we should be better in scale than the ones mentioned.

Our positions and qualifications are not being given the progressions we are entitled for and abused

In no way I am offending paramedic aides ad phlebotomists, but I dare say we nurses do in fact have more responsibilities and duties on our hands. I am not downgrading the paramedic aides' and the phlebotomists' work, far from it, but yes, we deal with the actual patients' lives, we have more strenuous duties. I'm not gonna say no to salary scale 12 for paramedic aides and phlebotomists, but if their scale is raised, then I demand revision of the nurses' scale and salary. We have to be realistic, the salary of Maltese nurse is nothing compared to nurses working abroad, plus they have less hours in their shift than ours. I think we need to worry more about our situation ijn general such as shift hours, and actual salary, more than scales for other professions. In addition, I work in the only oncology hospital in Malta, and to no surprise to anyone I'm sure, we do not even have extra pay as risk-safety-money since we deal with chemotherapy and we are working with cancerous chemicals everyday.

I do not mind if they succeed in raising their scale but then the nurse's scale is to be revised, as to become a nurse we pass from a 3 years course and some including myself continue and spend money to continue studying . whilst the course of a phlebotomist is only a 6 months course.

the nursing profession is being eaten away slowly, and the inclusion of other skills or professions in our union was a huge step towards that end. i am sorry to say.
