This is not a suitable location. It would be disturbing a residential neighborhood and a busy walking/bike path. Explore the options.

I wanted to pass on a few comments/notes regarding the proposed NYSP barracks being built in Malta. I recognize that folks have a variety of opinions, I feel like I need to pass on some thoughts and facts concerning such a facility. First off, I firmly believe that this facility does not belong in the midst of a residential community. I would love for this barracks to remain in Malta, but should be constructed in a commercial district. It’s 2024, we shouldn’t be constructing 24/7 emergency facilities within a residential location. We know better now, we know that there will be a time that it will need renovations and expansion, let’s talk about that today, not in 15 years. Public, commercial facilities should be built where expansion is already accessible, where renovations could occur without directly impeding residents. Thank you for sharing the drawing of the proposed site plan. I will mention this is merely a rendering of a proposed project. It’s great for conversation but there is no depth to the drawing. For instance, it shows 30 parking stalls available, 28 + (2) ADA opportunities. So let’s think about this for a moment, first of all, this facility will likely warrant (3) ADA stalls, so subtract 2 additional parking spots. Regardless, let’s take the 28, non ADA available, we have employees parking in the lot, add police support vehicles (trailers/trucks/other regional support equipment), Troopers conducting normal business in the area and of course visitors for a variety of reasons. With all of this ‘normal daily business traffic/vehicles,’ I would say there may be less than 10 spots available. We know there will be a training facility within the complex, they invite 30 Troopers/officers from throughout the area, where do they park? On the street, in the neighborhood, where? Again, let’s ask these deeper questions on how a public facility will be utilized.

There are other parcels that don’t require deforestation and intrusion of residential areas.

There are many more suitable locations available for this project rather than a residential neighborhood.

I do not want this in Luther Forest. I support the police but this is not the right place for the barracks.

so many other options than a forest that has been there before most of the troopers are old. Why have the trees been cleared already? Where's the respect?

This why people don’t like the government anymore! No one cares anymore! It’s really pathetic!

This disrupts the residential citizens lives. We pay taxes to have family and grow in neighborhood setting areas.

If there are alternatives, the Town should consider them

The projected location, will be in a high traffic area during ruah hour traffic. It may not be auitable for state police, or the community. I live in Malta, and I dont see hoe thia benefits the tax payers aside from adding more debt to the tien

I have lived here for 45 years. It is a beautiful place to live. The addition of a trouper barracks would destroy the foot print of the forest. A residential area is no place for this. There are other places available . The traffic on Dunning Street is already very busy. A barracks will make it worse. It is very sad to see the beautiful entrance into our neighborhoods being destroyed. It is sad to think that our own town board approved this project along with the small development that is going in right up from the proposed barracks.

This is not a suitable place for these barracks. Please don’t ruin this beautiful, natural area. Build on one of the free sites.
