The only elevator at the College Eight Academic Building has been broken since January 30th! College Eight is only one of FOUR currently inaccessible and segregated spaces managed by UCSC right now, including: Humanities I, Social Sciences II and the Delaware Building.

That means that for OVER HALF OF THE QUARTER, students with mobility impairments have been dis-abled from entering the building and/or participating in any of the activities/programs that take place there.

Please sign this petition to ask UCSC to repair these elevators IMMEDIATELY and to take the lives of students, professors/instructors, parents, and visitors with impairments seriously. Please sign this petition to ask UCSC to engage with us in a serious dialogue (one that includes disabled students, faculty, staff and visitors to the UCSC campus) around structured patterns of segregation on this campus and legitimate action(s) to be taken on the part of the University to directly address restructuring these patterns of unequal access and treatment.

I am honestly overwhelmed by the response to this issue. It is clear that this energy belongs entirely to those of you who refused to let these barriers remain ignored.

Its wild that I have to choose between getting to class and my own physical access just because the school refuses to prioritize repairs

the admin's priorities are evident in their desire for expansive development and not development of accomodation

Six (plus) weeks repair time during a 10-week quarter is not a "reasonable" estimate for repair time. Which costs are greater: expedited repair costs/new elevator construction costs OR the academic/professional development of disabled members of the UCSC community?

The segregation of this building on campus is absolutely unacceptable.
