The Department of Transportation is ignoring the body count at Rt 31 and Rt 10. We need to hit 100 signatures right now to force them to stop looking away. Send this link to five people who are tired of seeing more lives destroyed by this intersection.

Please do the right thing NOW. How many folks have to die or be mamed for life? VDOT your statistics mean nothing to the folks who have lost family and friends at this intersection. How many more lives?
Unfortunately, I have seen many near misses due to vehicle failure to stop at the sign or to vehicles pulling out at inopportune times for the vehicle with the right of way. I have also been the vehicle which has to hit breaks hard or nearly T-bones a vehicle traveling illegally or riskily through the intersection in question. It's time for a traffic light.
Having worked in Surry as a Law Enforcement Officer for many years now, I have responded to many accidents at this intersection. I have also witnessed many people not stop for the stop sign there and our deputies issuing traffic tickets for this. The needed precautions should be taken by VDOT to stop these deadly accidents from occurring.
Dendron vol firefighter have had plenty of people not even stop and look just pull right out while I’m signaling to show I am continuing on 31
I live near this intersection and have seen countless accidents and multiple fatalities here. I’d imagine nearly, if not all could be avoided by changing the rise in the road before the curve or adjusting the angle of he curve approaching that intersection.

Clearly occasional sheriff monitoring is insufficient. I agree with extending the 35mph zone to the intersection or a stop light would be valuable. Minimum flashing lights on the t-stop sign or flashing signal (yellow for 31, red for the stop). Something must be done.
