We the signers of this petition believe that any product manufactured or sold in the United States of America should carry a warning if it contains the sweetener "Advantame" for the following reasons.
Although it has been established that Advantame is sweet enough to only be used in small amounts, any amount of Aspartame, a component of Advantame, can make a person with Phenylketonuria (PKU) very sick. It is already ruled by the FDA that any product containing Aspartame should carry a warning for people with PKU, therefore, if a product contains Advantame, which contains Aspartame, the product should carry the same warnings.

Lack of labeling can be harmful to people with all sorts of conditions, but those with PKU face a particular risk and therefore not requiring labeling when a product contains aspartame is particularly irresponsible.
What person in their right mind renames PKU and then refuses to label the consumer product correctly? Who is make a buck by trying to hide PKU under a different name? Shame on you greedy people! I supposed you will write a new law to protect yourself from lawsuits for anyone using your newly named product. Shame on you!
Anything artificial should have a warning so consumers can make informed choices.
We as citizens if this country have a right to know what is completely in our food that we buy and feed to our families. Plain and simple. Im sure the people at the top of these companies aren't feeding their families their product.
It is sad how unconcerned our FDA has become. If something can make money that is all they care about; not anyone's health!
Advantame is approved as an UNLABELLED food additive, found in soft drinks, chocolate milk, ice cream and even BAKED GOODS> Unlike aspartame, it is not broken down by heat. Unlike Aspartame, it is not required to bear a warning for those with phenylketonuria, who monitor total levels of phenylalanine carefully to prevent neurological complications. Outside of individuals with PKU, this ingredient in increased levels can complicate MS, cause dizziness, headaches and menstrual disorders in sensitive individuals. The product, which binds artificial vanillin to an aspartame-like component is fundamentally a sweetener, yet does not need to be listed as such if the manufacturers choose to label it as a flavoring agent. It is unacceptable to omit it from labels and to deny the public the ability to make an informed choice regarding its consumption!!!

Any and ALL phenylalanine has to be accounted for in order to properly manage the PKU diet. We need warning labels!
