We, the undersigned students and graduates of Murdoch University Dubai, are submitting this petition to formally express our concern regarding the inadequate standard of the 2024 graduation ceremony held at the Knowledge Park Auditorium.
We believe the event did not meet the expectations of a formal academic celebration and failed to reflect the efforts and accomplishments of its graduating students.
The issues observed include:
- Overcrowded and unsuitable venue, with limited seating for both students and guests
- No visible event staff or chaperones to guide students or assist guests
- Extra ticket holders placed in an overflow room without prior notice, where the event was streamed instead of being experienced in-person with graduates
- Inadequate catering arrangements, resulting in long queues, early depletion of food, and many guests leaving without being served
- Lack of sufficient dining areas, forcing graduates and families to eat while standing or in hallways
- Absence of formal graduation elements, such as the symbolic tassel-turning
- Faculty members having to step in informally to support students due to poor event coordination

Multiple students, attendees, and even faculty members expressed concern at the event, and many described the experience as chaotic and disappointing.
We are formally requesting that the university administration take the following actions:
- Secure a venue that meets the capacity, accessibility, and professionalism required for a university graduation
- Ensure full transparency regarding guest ticketing terms and overflow arrangements before purchase
- Improve event logistics including adequate seating, food, dining space, and crowd management
- Restore key ceremonial elements expected in a formal graduation ceremony
- Take student feedback into account
Graduation is a critical milestone that represents the culmination of years of academic effort. We would love if Murdoch University Dubai ensures that future ceremonies are executed with the quality, respect, and care that students and their families deserve.

The students deserve a bigger venue without any seating capacity and limits for the students so they dont miss out on their graduation. +having the option to bring more than 2 guests. I have a little siblings. I can't just bring my parents and leave out my little siblings.
Graduation is a milestone that represents years of hard work and dedication. As university students, we look forward to this day not just as a ceremony, but as a celebration of our higher-level achievements. We hope it reflects the significance it truly holds
The venue was disappointing and failed to accommodate everyone comfortably. Students and their families were forced to eat standing due to insufficient space for seated dining. Food was not well portioned and was too less of a quantity to support the attendees.
I'm not sure if the person who responded to me was in the council, but i was rudely responded to when i asked for transparency and another council member had openly made fun of me in the university group chat (unprofessional) if you can't handle the workload just take a break and respond later, no need to act unprofessional and insult someone in front of hundreds of students.
We need better even management and a more fun and sophisticated graduation ceremony. It should feel uplifting rather than tedious.
I totally agree with this petition as its graduation and it should be done in the best way for us.

I would have to agree that the venue was much smaller than expected considering the large amount of students. It felt disappointing that having multiple family members they were sent to an overflow. Honestly for how much students pay + the fees for graduation. We would have appreciated a better venue which didn’t feel crowded, clunked up, completely underwhelming compared to the graduation held the year before. Signing this hoping that future students may experience a better ceremony than the previous.
