We, a group of concerned East Brunswick residents, ask the Mayor and town council to consider a sanctuary city designation for East Brunswick. By doing so East Brunswick will join many other communities in the US in protecting residents from the immigration ban. We are a diverse community with immigrants from all over the world who make East Brunswick a unique, vibrant and special place to live. Our schools educate students who speak over 100 languages, our houses of worship cover a range of religions and denominations and each one of us has neighbors whose origin may be from another continent. Many of us are those immigrant neighbors. In our daily lives we are all hard working residents, who chose to live in East Brunswick because of the welcoming community, excellent schools, wonderful parks and great location. The recent ban on immigration may have negative effects on some of us. Mayor Cohen mentioned the concept of "Tikkun Olam" in a speech at the high school last year, urging students to not be bystanders. This is an opportunity to lead by example.
We ask the Mayor and town council to declare East Brunswick a sanctuary city and commit to support all East Brunswick residents and their families.

I have been hearing so many stories from my neighbors about the fear they feel in their own homes lately. Our community is built on people who have come from all over the world to build a life here and we cannot turn our backs on them now.

Seeing this grow has been overwhelming because my own family knows firsthand that our town is at its best when it welcomes everyone. The momentum behind this feels like a true reflection of the community I love.

Please enable East Brunswick to become a Sanctuary City. As a resident of 43 years, I feel the diversity of our residents is an exceptional feature of our town. I believe we are charitable and empathetic people who understand that others seek a better life and must flee from threatening conditions in their country of origin.
Sanctuary just means that East Brunswick won't do ICE's job for them. Yes to Sanctuary! No one leaves their home country unless there are severe stresses.
I am an East Brunswick resident whose very first friends here are originally from other countries and who truly values my friends and extended community of immigrants.
America is a country of immigrants. Lets be true to the lady in the harbor; she stands for liberty and freedom! Make East Brunswick a sanctuary city.
East Brunswick has long celebrated its diversity. It is our humane duty to make our residents feel safe.
No one is illegal.

I am a 15 year veteran EBHS teacher and my students and their families here and abroad need sanctuary!
