They actually said yes and committed to the policy change which is honestly wild because I remember just sitting here wondering if anyone would even care about this. I am going to make sure they actually follow through on the purchasing guidelines because promises are easy but real shifts take …

The Conflict-Free Campus Initiative draws on the power of student leadership and activism to bring about peace in Congo. By encouraging university officials and stakeholders, both of whom are large purchasers of electronics and powerful spokespersons, to commit to measures that pressure electronics companies to responsibly invest in Congo's minerals sector, students are voicing the demand for conflict-free products from Congo. Comprehensive reform is needed in Congo to bring about sustainable peace- now is the time is now for students to lead the conflict-free movement for peace in eastern Congo. Colby College prides itself on its commitment to global citizenship. Becoming Conflict Free should be a priority of the students, faculty, and administration of Colby. "Therefore, I sign this petition today because I want to see Colby become a Conflict Free Campus by committing to purchasing only
conflict free electronics once they become available."

I was just reading through the comments again and the stories about the mineral trade are honestly so heavy but it helps to see that people actually care about where these electronics come from. Planning to sit down with some folks in administration soon to see if we can get them to look at our procurement policy. It feels like kind of a slow grind but I really think we can get them to listen if we keep pushing.
