As educators, we work very hard to create the experiences and resources that students use throughout the school year to learn and grow as students. It should be up to us as educators to use our own judgement and expertise to create instructions and activities for students to participate in. I believe that we as educators can choose the tools we use to create.

Recently, Academy of the City Charter School mandated the use of an AI tool, Lenny, which is unable to be opt-ed out of. It is mandated for all teachers to use in order to create "quickly create ready-to-use, evidence-based lessons and interventions for students". AI tools generate information based on other's work, and current regulations around AI's power consumption, data scraping, and legality are all currently insufficient to validate that this tool falls in line with anything except student data privacy laws.

It is my belief that use of these tools should be optional as long as teachers are able to continue creating differnitiated lessons as they always have, by using tools that they are able to choose, including this tool if they see fit. I do not believe that the use of a tool like this should be mandated.

Teachers know their students better than some computer program ever will. Let them teach and stop forcing this tech on everyone.
