We are concerned about the safety of wire traffic barriers and their increasing presence on New Zealand roads and highways.  We urge the NZTA and the Ministry of Transport to place a moratorium on the use of such barriers until a comprehensive review is undertaken into the effectiveness and safety of wire traffic barriers to all road users, particularly motorcyclists.

Updates

August 29, 2010

The current level of engagement has prompted a formal request for a meeting with representatives from the Ministry of Transport regarding the safety data. I am currently drafting a briefing document that outlines our specific concerns to present during these discussions.

Road safety is a joke if we are putting these up. Think about the motorcyclists for once instead of just saving a buck on construction.

These things are death traps for bikers. One slip and you are cut to pieces. Get them off our roads now before someone else dies.

Total absolute garbage. NZTA needs to wake up and see that these barriers are killing people not saving them.

Ridiculous waste of money. My partner rides a bike and we are both terrified of these wires. They dont belong on our highways.

They are literally lethal. Stop installing them yesterday.
