Maesteg Town Hall in Mid Glamorgan South Wales is having a needed redevelopment . The plan for the new build will mean the destruction of a beautiful mature lime tree and a shelter designed by children from the local school . Surely in this time when conservation is a recognised issue a way around this could be found . The present shelter is actually built around the tree, with a hole in the roof designed to accommodate it.
The pictures show the Town Hall as it is now The centre picture is an artist's impression of the new planned building the last picture is a suggestion of how it could be built while still keeping the tree . The shelter could be placed in the lower part surrounding the tree, as it is now or placed elsewhere in the town.

Keep your hands off the tree and shelter the people of maesteg are telling you no way. I sit there every day
It's a disgrace to remove an iconic part of the town.

Save this beautiful part of Maesteg, it has been a part of Maesteg history for generations
To much of ‘The Old’ being taken from the town.
I've said that I would chain my self to the tree before they could cut it down

I see another tree to be felled,as were the trees near the rookery.We seem to have no say really as plans are already made,as they were with the redevelopment plans for the town hall.The trees in commercial street are the wrong type shedding leaves all over the pavements.In other words bcbc have no idea about trees whatsoever.
