this is for a political action project I\'m involved in where we have chosen to collect petition signatures for changes to be made to Canada\'s Live-In Caregiver immigration policy, which has left many nannies, especially within the Filipino population in Toronto, exploited (wages are less than minimum age, no overtime, unfavourable living conditions, living with their eployers, etc), sexual/mental/physical/emotional abuse, and facing deportation. These women come to this country with a false impression of greener grass, only to be taken advantage of, and used. This is an issue of human rights!

The stories I keep hearing from these caregivers about their daily lives are heavier than I ever imagined. It is becoming increasingly difficult to process the depth of this exploitation while we fight for basic recognition. I am exhausted by the silence from those in power but I am not walking away from this.

Reaching this point in our campaign has been an exhausting climb but seeing this level of attention gives me the strength to keep pushing forward. It is clear that more people are finally looking at the exploitation hidden behind these closed doors.

Every person deserves basic rights at work. Living with your boss is not a reason to be treated like a slave or abused. fix the laws.

Seen it happen to a friend. The system is set up for them to fail and stay trapped. Change the policy already.

My cousin went through this exact nightmare. She was working for pennies and never got a day off. It needs to stop now.
