PETITION TO END CAREGIVER PERMANENT RESIDENCE BACKLOG IMMEDIATELY
Whereas:
- The government recently announced their plans to address the issue of the Caregiver Permanent Residence (PR) Backlog with a promise to process most of the pending applications by the end of 2018;
- Caregivers who have been waiting years to reunify with their family members, face significant hardship, emotional stress, and the potential for family breakdown;
- Approximately 23,000 Caregiver applications are currently pending approval, with many waiting for five years or longer;
- The Federal government plans to limit PR applications from the Live-in-Caregiver or Caregiver Programs to 18,000 in 2017 and 17,000 in 2018;
- These numbers do not add up with the promise to end the backlog in 2018;
- We want to know how exactly the government will address the Caregiver Backlog given this limitation;
- We call for the immediate end to the Caregiver Backlog now.
We, the undersigned, Migrant Caregivers, Caregiver Advocates, Citizens, and Residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to:
- Process all pending Live-in-Caregiver applications for permanent residence IMMEDIATELY;
- Prioritize PR applications that were submitted before 2012;
- Address the underlying issues of forced family separation for people caregivers and other temporary foreign workers by extending Permanent Residence on arrival and allowing ALL temporary foreign workers to bring their families with them to Canada; and
- Ensure that all migrant workers have access to settlement, health, and social services.

Hit 500 signatures and I am honestly shaking a little because I was worried nobody would even look at this. It feels like such a long road ahead but seeing these names pop up on the screen is making me feel like maybe someone is finally paying attention to this mess.

I checked the page and my heart just did a total flip because I never thought so many people would actually get how urgent this is. It is wild to see this gaining speed while I am sitting here thinking about all those families who have been waiting years for a simple answer.

A hundred people have actually signed this thing and I am honestly kind of shocked because I started this in a total panic late at night. It feels like maybe someone is finally listening to the mess that these families are dealing with every single day. I keep refreshing the page and my eyes keep jumping to the counter even though I have so much other work to do right now.

Canada uses the work of these caregivers to look after our sick, disabled and elderly therefore we should reciprocate by granting PR status in a timely manner. We need to stop taking advantage of these workers.
Allow the care givers to have permanent residence status. This will allow them to change employers so they can work for families and others needing live in care. Otherwise they end up being held hostage by corporate interests in the privatized "homecare" industry.
With a minimum of bureaucracy immigrants were invited to help build Canada. We should be grateful and do what is needed to welcome families who want to join our country today. Undue delay kills the spirit. Fr. Camille Piché,OMI
I applied for my PR application Dec 2011 until now I’m still waiting for the results it’s so frustrating..I’ve cried all nights what’s going on on my papers ..I left my son when he was 3 months old & now he’s 16 years old ..how I I wish to be him..
I hope there is a sequence in approval for Permanent residency. Not because the others are single then they get the approval so fast that is unfair and discrimination to those who have dependents. First in, first out. Not last in first out.

We are very fortunate to have the caregivers come to Canada to serve in role very vital to the well being of seniors. Please give them permanent residency status. We need many more as we seniors grow in numbers.
