Though I appreciate the concerns of those having to walk down dark isolated roads at night, I would like to advise those who are contemplating introducing lighting to remedy the problem. There is another problem called light pollution resulting from the excessive abuse of street lighting in our communities. It is devastating to wildlife, and human health (circadian rhythm disruption and increases in breast and prostate cancer). This is established fact. If lighting is to be introduced please make sure it is motion operated so the lights only come on when needed, and that the luminaires are low colour temperature (2000K) LEDs. They should also be subject to an 11p.m. till dawn curfew as there is little point keeping light on when no-one is around. These recommendations will then provide you with the lighting that you need, without loss of amenity. For further information please view: https://independent.academia.edu/ColinHenshaw

I hated walking down this road at night and would go as far as ordering a taxi even though I was only in tramways so I didnt have to walk down it on my own!

I uses to work at Salford and I agree. For everyone's safety it should be well lit. Staff, students and public should feel safe.

Attended Salford Uni back in 1998, shocked to hear they still haven't improved the situation at Wallness Lane!

I studied at Salford and left in 2010. It was renowned for being a dodgy area with muggings and attacks back then. Hope this petition finally gets the local council to do something.

Walked along this road countless times during my three years in Salford, often at night. Fully behind any action that can be taken to make this road safer for all.

I know numerous people that have had issues walking through this park and it is quite nerve racking to walk through knowing it's history!
