Petition to Protect Virginia Public Library Funding:
We, the undersigned members of the community, respectfully urge you to NOT reduce funding for the Virginia Public Library. Libraries are essential public spaces that provide spaces that provide free access to knowledge, technology, and educational resources for people of ALL ages.
Cutting library funding would have serious, long-lasting consequences, including:
- Reduced Access to Books and Learning Materials
- Fewer Programs for Children, Teens, and Adults
- Loss of Technology Access
- Impact on Vulnerable Populations
- Harm to Community Growth and Opportunity
We believe that public libraries are a cornerstone of a strong, educated, and connected community. Instead of cutting funding, we ask leaders to recognize the tremendous value libraries provide and explore alternative solutions that protect these essential services.
We respectfully request that you vote against any proposal to reduce library funding. This petition shows those of us who affirm our support for fully funded libraries and for continued investment in learning, literacy, and community access.
A 30% cut is devastating. I understand some cuts have to be made, but you have to make it a reasonable cut in order for the library to continue to provide it’s essential services
