The bill passed and the Governor has signed it into law. I am completely drained but relieved that this change is finally real. Stay vigilant while the new policy takes effect.

THIS VOTER'S PETITION FOR PRISON REFORM IS FOR A BILL TO REDUCE PRISON SENTENCES THROUGH "FIRST CALL FOR CHANGE BILL" WHEREBY THE TWO-THIRDS STATUTORY SENTENCE WILL BE READJUSTED AND RECALCULATED BY ENABLING THE OFFENDER TO EARN A THIRD OF THEIR TIME BACK THROUGH "GOOD TIME" CREDITS EARNED THROUGH EDUCATION AND POSITIVE PROGRAMMING, AND REDUCING THE MANDATORY MINIMUM SENTENCES FOR LIFE SENTENCES FROM 30 YEARS TO 20 YEARS FOR LIFERS WITH THE ELIGIBILITY OF PAROLE. THIS BILL WILL REDUCE THE RECIDIVISM RATE, REDUCE THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS BUDGET WHICH ALLOWS THE GOVERNMENT TO REALLOCATE THOSE TAX DOLLARS TO SCHOOLS AND PROJECTS WITHIN THE COMMUNITY, AND REDUCE THE OVERPOPULATION OF MINNESOTA PRISONS. STATISTICS INDICATE THAT LIFERS CAUSING PROBLEMS OR BRINGING HARM TO THE COMMUNITIES THEY HAVE BEEN RELEASED TO HAS YET TO OCCUR. IN POINT OF FACT, THEY HAVE BEEN MORE PRODUCTIVE MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY AND SOCIETY AT LARGE THAN REGULAR PAROLEES.

Reaching this point has been a long and draining road. I am tired today but seeing this momentum keeps me moving forward because the change we need is far too important to abandon now.

I believe the time has come to reevaluate our perception of what's possible in prison reform. Through education, positive programs, and support, human beings are truly capable of extraordinary leaps in consciousness. I myself have experienced this transformation first hand. This petition is a call for consideration and understanding and I support it one hundred percent.

In the US 50 percent of the population have a loved one incarsirated. Justice reform is the will of the people. It’s time for the sentate to do the job they were elected to do.

The person I support did not do it, his codefendent did. He has been locked up 32 yrs w 24 yet to go despite being innocent, but MN law says being there equals being the murderer. He is a loving, ethical man. The real murderer got out after only 8 yrs. MN Laws are severely unjust to Lifers, esp those who were just present, not guilty.

Addressing sentencing guidelines will create more opportunities for healing, re-uniting family, and creating change in the stigma of incarceration. Studies have shown that the recidivism rates for individuals charged with a violent crime are lower than any others.

California have this bill where they are releasing lifers, please read on it. We are trying to get this petition sign so Minnesota can enforce this bill as well.
