The city finally cleared us to skate at Red Arrow Park. We proved the rink is built to handle it. See you out there this summer.

  1. We would like to host a Rollerskating event at Red Arrow Park, in collaboration with other community organizations. (During the summer months, the Red Arrow Park rink, isn't available to the community for rollerskating) Ice skating is allowed during the winter months but, there are signs that say "No Roller Skating", which we feel is very unfair to the large Roller Skating Community, and other community organizations. The Skaters always ask the question, if there is Ice Skating in the Winter, shouldn't there be Roller Skating in the summer? So with further investigation into why, we were told that, because of the pipes that run underneath the cement, they do not allow rollerskating. Concluding that, this would damage the pipes. After hearing this I spoke with a coworker of mine, who is the hockey coach at my job He stated that, that did not sound possible, being that, the ice rink at our facility was installed by the same company, that installed the Red Arrow Park Rink. He also stated that periodically they melt down the ice and run tractors and trucks over the cement as well as building the graduation stage. This stage also sits on the rink & rotates, With no damage to the rink or pipes. So after speaking with him about this, he suggested that I call the company myself and inquire. They also concluded that, this was not possible, and also stated that, in there small town, they have the same construction. They have held their town circus on the same type of construction with elephants etc... After getting feedback from the builders of the Red Arrow Rink, I wonder is there some other reason why we are not allowed to skate at an outside rink, that was built for skating? Why are there signs at a skate rink, that read, no skating, per city ordinance. It would be really great to have open rollerskating, as well as scheduled skating events and classes, at red arrow park. Thank you for your time, please sign the petition. Terrence Clarke

My 10 year old daughter and I would love to roller skate at Red Arrow. She loves ice skating there in the winter. Skating outside in the fresh air on a temperate day in spring, summer and autumn sounds like a wonderful family activity!

I travel around the World reviewing Roller Rinks. There are many Roller/Ice rinks with this exact set up. Roller Skating in the summer months does not in anyway hurt the surface for Ice Skating.

Maggie Daley park in Chicago has an ice skating ribbon in the winter that they open up for roller skating in the warmer months so any technical "justification" sounds like a pretty poor excuse. They're only hurting the local businesses that could benefit from the additional foot traffic and activity! Let the people skate!

There is no good reason to ban this activity. This is a park & we should encourage its’ use. More foot traffic is good for businesses. It’s also good for the city. MKE has a reputation of having empty sidewalks. Please embrace this family friendly use of the space.

There is no reason why such a valuable resource in the city should go unused during the summer. The infrastructure is there to make the roller skating rink a reality of the Will is there. As a mother of a young child and a youth worker, I can guarantee it will be well used.

Outdoor roller rinks are an asset and an oasis in the cities that have them. For proof, check out any video of Venice Beach, New York's Central Park, or San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. Outdoor roller rinks unite people of all kinds and from all walks of life for music, fun & fitness.
