Let Live-Outs Eat Bagels

Live-outs are paying nearly $5,000 a year, yet they're denied access to a basic need—food—that even the lowest classes in history could access. This policy is outdated and needs to change. By paying significant dues, live-outs are active, contributing members, yet they’re treated differently regarding communal resources. This discrepancy doesn’t reflect our values of sisterhood, equity, and inclusivity.
Live-outs deserve access to communal kitchen supplies, especially when they’re already paying a vacancy fee. In times of financial difficulty for many, providing access to communal food is a small step that makes a big difference and ensures that every sister feels equally valued.
Let’s amend Standing Rule Section 15: “The communal food in the kitchen, including leftovers and bread, is only for live-in members.” If it’s communal, why isn’t it accessible to everyone? This rule creates unnecessary division and restricts support to a select few, which goes against our mission of mutual care and respect.
Section 15 (cont.): "If a chapter member continually abuses the meal expectations further action will be taken case by case and may result in a Standards Council Meeting and/or fines at the discretion of the Vice President of Member Development."
Disciplinary actions such as fines or Standards Council Meetings for minor infractions like this are excessive and create unnecessary tension. By removing the “no eating bread” rule, we can foster a more positive and respectful environment that balances communal resources with reasonable personal freedom.
Let’s make this right and be on the right side of ADPi history. This is a chance to demonstrate unity and uphold our values. Don’t donate (Adri already lost $10 to iPetitions).
