The Stanwood City Council is currently considering allowing a recreational marijuana shop in downtown Stanwood.

In 2012 the citizens of Stanwood voted agianst I-502, which made marijuana legal in WA state.

In 2016, the City Council voted to not allow a recreational marijuana shop within city limits.

In that Ordinance (1376), the city cited many concerns about the risks of marijuana to Stanwood and its citizens. This year over 100 people have come forward with their comments and concerns.

Many citizens are simply asking that the issue of a recreational marijuana shop in Stanwood be put on the ballot for an Advisory Vote. Putting an issue on the ballot for an Advisory Vote is reserved for controversial issues that deserve input from ALL voters. Before a decision like a pot shop in Stanwood is made, it just makes sense to hear from a majority of Stanwood voters.

Since Councilmember Conrad Ryer has recently resigned, in just a few months Stanwood will have a ballot for the November 2018 election. This means that an Advisory Vote could be added to the ballot for no extra cost to the City.

Now is the time for The City Council to hear from the people they were elected to serve!
