This petition is to legalize Lane-Splitting in the state of Missouri for motorcycles. Lane splitting is where a motorcycle can pass vehicles in both lanes simply by going through the middle of both lanes. This is valuable for many reasons. Firstly, it is safer for me and my motorcycle. Sitting in very long lanes of traffic with any motorcycle leaves us susceptible to being rear ended. Being still on a motorcycle is not a good thing! If i get hit from the rear, it could be really bad. Secondly, bikes are prone to overheating sitting in traffic for long periods of time without getting any cooling to the engine. The only way for cool airflow is to run air through the radiator and that only happens when driving. Thirdly, many citizens and daily drivers in MO, do not get over from the left lane when passing other cars on the right. They sit and idle side by side with other vehicles blocking anyone else from getting around them. This is also dangerous for motorcycle riders. As a rider, we want to pass up any vehicles ahead of us always giving us a free road to ride in without having the need to stop for any other vehicles ahead of us. We can't be harmed by others faults if we're just driving on an open road. Lane-splitting allows us to do this. Right now it is a gray area in the Missouri state Law. I don't see why it can't be legalized if marijuana can be.
