It's stupid to change the name of a school that's been one name forever! No I didn't go to Walker, but the people should have a say so. Just because they built a new school and moved it down the road a little ways doesn't mean the name should change.

Changing the name, seriously??? Save all that money for when there are budget cuts & the board is screaming because they have to cut programs. In this case if it's not broken, why fix it.

I know change is good sometimes to make the future better but taking away something that has meant pride and honor to so many people is senseless and not needed. If you want to have people think of us in a good way if you want to draw people to Jasper then put your focus on making this new school the safest most efficient school around with a happy involved staff and happy students. I guarantee that with the honor of being a WALKER VIKING will catch more people's attention than just being Jasper Vikings in a big building will!!!!!

I have lived in Jasper my whole life. Almost every one in my family are Walker graduates. Pride, tradition, a loyal group of fans than come to ballgames every Friday to see the Walker Vikings play. Some in their own Viking Jersey they wore when they played. Others are enthusiastic fans wearing their favorite Walker Vikings spirit gear. Private organizations have bought new Walker Viking equipment, trucks, and expensive band uniforms all with there own hard work to raise the money. It is completely unfair and ridiculous to make this change in such a careless and off-handed kind of way. I dare say any one of you thought more about what you put on your back this morning. Let's teach our children a valuable lesson in democracy. Put this issue to a vote before the citizens of the city of Jasper. Instead of teaching them 5 individuals can make an important decision that effects everyone who has ever, or is, or will ever attend Walker High School. As well as how tradition and loyalty aren't important.

I have always loved hearing stories of my Dad playing baseball or football for Coach Gambrell, and I followed in my Aunts footsteps with joining color guard my Freshman year in 1999. Since my 2003 graduation I have always looked forward to watching my children start their Freshman years at Walker- even if its a new location- its the love I suppose for the WALKER VIKING name and the Pride that comes with it. Anyway its sad to see the name change. I love my Alma Mater!! GO WALKER VIKINGS!!!!

The school has a 100 year old history, changing the name ends this legacy. The cost by far out weighs the need to please those who do not live inside Walker County or in Jasper. Why was this idea not presented to the tax payers prior to the school being built? If there is so much money to cover the cost of what it will cost to change the name, why not put that into pay raises for teachers, staff and substitutes?
Poor idea to please those this school means nothing to.

After my video I learned they also planned to change the mascot and not be the Vikings. I think that's the best mascot out there so with that in mind along with the ring situation i'm now signing this petition. They should change the name in a more organized manner and plan for upcoming students and their class rings and anything else that bears the name of the school. If it is a decision that they want to change the name for sure.

I totally disagree with this decision to change from Walker to Jasper. Totally unexceptional. ...what are they thinking? I feel the residents of our town should have had a say so in this hush hush decision decision. And the cost to the taxpayers and parents for new uniforms for all sports departments. Also all the pool paperwork will have to be changed. This change was for the ones who done it, not for the past and future Walker students. It will always be
