The Lapal Canal is the derelict half of the Dudley No.2 canal lying dormant between Hawne Basin in Halesowen and Selly Oak in Birmingham. It closed to full navigation in 1917 when the most recent collapse of the Lapal tunnel was deemed too costly to repair. In due course, the open-air approach canal sections were gradually closed and abandoned for safety . This included the link section between Selly Oak Park and the Worcester and Birmingham Canal through the plot of land now called Battery Park in recognition of the former Birmingham Battery and Metal Company.
This petition is now closed. The trust is delighted to announce that the Harvest Partnership responsible for the site has agreed to include funding to restore a section of the Lapal Canal joining the Worcester and Birmingham Canal at Selly Oak. Keep the history alive. We have enough new builds already and nowhere near enough green space left in the area.

Total madness. Why does everything have to be turned into a concrete block for profit? ENOUGH.

This is such a shame. Once this nature is gone you can never get it back. Leave it alone!

Fix the canal instead of building on it. Would be a huge asset to the community if restored properly.
