On the 10th day of December 2010 Landon was shot to death by a 13 year old with a gun that belong to his dad. The gun was unsecured and multiple loaded guns were found in the home accessable to the children of the home. The 13 yearl old was in an argument with another child over a girl when he went into another part of the house got a gun loaded it and threatened to shoot then proceeded with his threat. The child was charged with 2nd degree murder but the parents were never charged with any crime, this petition is to make parents responsible for allowing their child to endager or in this case murder another. This is not anything new to the state of Oklahoma, it happens quite often and yet the law stays the same. Parents pay a higher price if their child skips school, parents can go to jail but if the child is allowed to get your gun and shoot someone no charges will be filed against the parent. If a parent should Leave a young child unsupervised in an unsafe area it is know as child endangerment and yet it is ok to leave weapons available for easy access with no parent supervision. We are held more responsible for our animals than our children. If our dog bites or yet kills someone the owner pays the price for that dog and yet we pass murder off as if it were nothing, lets make parents accountable.
