We, the homeowners of The Lakes at Northtown and surrounding areas, petition Catalyst Engineering Group and Lichter Venture Group from building a gas station within 500 feet of our neighborhood.

We urge you to consider several negative effects this would have not only on the health of our community but also the surrounding environment.

When gasoline evaporates it gives off toxic fumes. Studies have found that air surrounding gas stations can contain much higher concentrations of cancer causing vapors. A 2003-2004 study conducted in France documented a significant relationship between childhood leukemia and living near a gas station. In 2012, Brazilian researchers found that air quality was significantly degraded up to 150 meters (492 feet) from gas stations.

The proximity of the gas station would also negatively affect the lake and local wildlife. Run off from the station would further the potential for chemicals in these waters. These waters drain into an easement which surrounds our community. The easement is part of a mandatory greenbelt area and 100-year floodplain as per the county.

We, the undersigned, demand that the Timothy Moltz and Lichter Venture Group kindly reconsider their decision concerning the location of this gas station. Our neighborhood is open to discussing other alternative uses for this plot of land that does not negatively impact our health and safety.
