I met Mr. Fournet one time, while participating with a Nation wide cadet program. This was about 1987 and I was about 16 years old. I was at Paul Fournet Air Service, in the kitchen, when he came in. I didnt know who he was, so he introduced himself, and we spoke for a few minutes. The simple act of him taking time to sit and talk with a 16 year old boy has remained a memory that returns everytime I entered the building or heared his name mentioned. I never saw him again. As time passed I began to learn more about this man, Who he was and what he accomplished. There are many people in this area who have contributed to aviation, however, Paul Fournet is the only one who has touched so many lives. Naming the field in his honor is a simple gesture that will help to make him a part of the lives of future aviators, and to presurve his memory, for those that knew him!

Anyone who ever met Paul Fournet knew instantly that they had become friends with someone special. Paul loved Lafayette and the airport. He was an aviator, but most of all he was a citizen that gave back to his community. His activity in the community has been matched by only a few. It would be a great honor to place his name on the airport.

Paul Fournet laid the foundation of air transportation needs for the oil industry. Meeting these demands led to expansion of the airport. The evolution of the Lafayette Airport to what it is today can be accredited to Paul's foresite. He is owed that recognition.
