The C. Paul Phelps Correctional Center is one of few Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections facilities that offer education and re-entry programs for offenders, make clothing, do farming, offer special programs for employees, and offenders. Locally, it helps the economy thrive by providing jobs for residents spanning from Leesville to Rosepine, DeRidder, Merryville, Singer, DeQuincy, Sulphur, and Lake Charles.
On Friday, September 14, 2012 a major bomb was dropped on all employees, their families, the residents of neighboring cities, and the offenders. A spur of the moment decision to close PCC per the department and the governor. This closure will have a huge impact on local unemployment and the economy of the previously listed cities above.
Please sign this petition to help us show the capitol that we care too much about our friends, family, and economy to see this closure take place!

The momentum behind this effort proves just how much our communities rely on these jobs and programs. Post the link on Facebook right now to keep the pressure on the governor. Call your local representative today and tell them that closing Phelps is a direct attack on our local economy.

My husband works there and we rely on that paycheck. Its not fair to just spring this on everyone without a plan. Bad idea.

The programs at Phelps actually help people change their lives. Its a shame they want to throw that all away.
