The Board of Trustees has officially confirmed that the parking privatization proposal is withdrawn. We now have confirmation that management will remain under internal control. I am currently reviewing the transition plan to ensure this commitment is honored permanently.

IUPUI has outsourced our bookstore and cafeteria, among other facilities. Now, the IU Board of Trustees has proposed to outsource our parking, which could result in increased parking fees, a cut in pay and benefits to parking staff, and a loss of accountability. We, the undersigned, demand that the IU Board of Trustees:

  1. Keep management of parking facilities under the control of IU
  2. Privatization deals should be put to campus-wide referendum on any IU campus affected
  3. Make all information related to past, current, and future privatization deals publicly available:
       - Projected cost for students and university employees

       - Independent audit of all existing contracts

       - All IU Board of Trustee members' employers, affiliations, and any other corporation/

organziation in which they have a vested interest

I have spent the week gathering the financial records from the previous cafeteria outsourcing contracts to compare against these new parking proposals. This data will be part of the formal information request I am submitting to the Board of Trustees by the end of the week.

Keep it campus controlled. Privatizing everything is just gonna lead to a headache for everyone who drives to class.

Parking is already way too expensive for students. We cant afford for them to hike the prices up even more just for profit.

The trustees need to be transparent about who they are working with. This feels super shady.

Enough with the outsourcing. The staff deserve better than having their pay and benefits slashed by some outside company.
