  1. As the discussion of boundary changes for Portland Public Schools progresses, one issue seems to be a common theme from almost every school - let us keep our community together. Parents, teachers and most importantly students have worked long and hard to build strong communities that provide incredible support to PPS. Whether it's volunteer hours, fundraising or close friendships, these assets are extremely valuable to the successes of our students and schools, but they are extremely difficult to measure using data. Our school, Beverly Cleary, is one of the few schools where both proposed options split our community. As members of this community, we are signing this petition to urge PPS to take whatever steps it can to keep our community together. Whether you move to a K-5 model or stick with K-8, we urge you to think about the impact your decision will have on the students. There has to be another way that will permit this community and more importantly these students to stay together if they desire. Whether this means permitting existing students to grandfather in; allowing some level of choice for families whose homes are being redisticted or some other solution, we the undersigned urge PPS to provide alternatives that will permit ALL of our community to remain as one!
