Following the demolition and rebuilding of Birks Halls, rumour has it that they\'re planning to rename it too. Even before it was Birks Halls, it was Birks Grange - so please sign this petition to make sure it stays BIRKS! When we\'ve collected enough signatures we\'ll forward it on to the university. NB Although you are asked for your e-mail address, this is only to verify that the same person doesn\'t sign twice!! YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS WON\'T BE PASSED ON TO THE UNIVERSITY! Update: 90 signatures so far! Please keep passing the link on to your fellow Birks ex-residents. Quote of the day: \"Brutal architecture. Fond memories.\"

Updates

April 1, 2005

The volume of support has now reached a point that demands formal acknowledgement from the university administration. I am currently drafting a letter to the campus facilities board to request a meeting regarding the naming plans. We intend to present the full list of signees as evidence that the historical identity of this site holds significant value.

My brother and I both stayed there and it would be a shame to lose the name. It felt like home to so many of us.

The uni is wasting money on new signs when they could be fixing actual problems. Keep the name.

Ridiculous to change it now. Everyone knows it as Birks. Stop changing things just for the sake of it.
