- Deming Park is a place where families come together to enjoy nature, create memories, and celebrate community events. While we appreciate the effort behind this year’s Halloween train ride, some of the scenes include graphic violence, bloody dismemberment, and crime-like imagery.
We believe these depictions are not suitable for a family-friendly park. They can cause distress, fear, and anxiety in children, detracting from the fun and festive spirit the event should offer.
We are calling on Terre Haute Parks and Recreational department to
- Remove all scenes that depict violence, gore, or illegal acts.
- Focus future events on light-hearted, playful, and child-appropriate themes.

This is not family friendly. All ages should be considered for public park. This not common sense. You do not see this at people’s homes for trick or treat night.
Please keep our parks child-friendly. Portrayals of dismemberment & illegal acts makes the park unappealing for parents.
Children shouldn't even have the thoughts of such gore in their innocent minds. We should be able to take them to a park to play with out terrifying little 3 and 4 year old babies!
This grotesque display makes many people, particularly those with young children, feel unwelcome at our public park. It could also be a trigger for many people who have experienced or witnessed violence. I find it utterly appalling.
I would normally take my young kids to see the fun things that have been displayed up at the park at this time of year however, upon learning that there’s depictions of gruesome scenes and violence, I won’t be taking my kids until it’s an family friendly environment.
Every day this display was up the mayor and council should be fined $500 Dollars each for this immoral display!!!
This is a total disgrace!

While I understand that the haunted house is lucrative for the parks department, there must be a way to make the public space where children play appropriate for everyone.
