If you want to get rid of a Racist name, then take the name of a well known KKK leader off all the things in West Virginia. Remove the name of Robert C. Byrd.

I graduated from this school in 1965. I do not feel that anyone has the right to change the name of this school just because of some idiot's senseless killing of innocent people. Our school, nor those who attended, had anything to do with this and we are proud of our heritage and the school we attended. We were, and always will be, the Stonewall Jackson Generals!

Kelley, I'm not understanding who you're referring to as "these people". And I choose to assume you meant protesting ALL crime.......

Went to Kanawha Elementary which was torn down. Went to Glenwood Elementary which is now gone. I then attended Woodrow Wilson junior high school which was torn down. Stonewall Jackson is the only school I attended I have left let's just use some common sense and keep the name of the school as it is.

Thomas J. Jackson was a native of what was to become West Virginia. He was educated at the United States Military Academy and became a hero in the Mexucan War. He became an educator at VMI. He was a great military leader and was respected for that worldwide. He taught slaves to read in Lexington, VA despite laws prohibiting this. He was a man of great faith and character. If this school would study this man and focus students on his character and not the flawed cause he chose, we would be ahead.

EVERYONE knows the name Stonewall Jackson. It's not just a good name but a name full of great memories. As a high school graduate of SJ, I felt a sense of loss when it became a Middle School. To change the name would be like changing my entire school aged years, because all of my siblings, cousins, and friends attended Stonewall. I had dreams of meeting Mrs. Kathleen G. Corbett and becoming a VIP just like my sister, and that dream came true. I'm asking that you think before you act. And quite frankly, I don't see or understand the reason for a name change. What's the point?! What will it accomplish?!
