Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson was an accomplished Virginian/West Virginian! No one can change that fact.

Please, when is the madness going to stop.....People need to find some volunteer work in the community, church or school...Definitely too much time on their hands.

Leave the name alone. Stonewall Jackson was himself descended from slaves (indentured servants), who had criminal records, and made good in the new world. He had learning disabilities, and overcame them, to graduate from the USMA West Point, distinguished himself, as a soldier, then as an educator, being a professor at VMI. He learned the value of STEM before the term was coined. He used his knowledge of Mathematics, to become an artillery officer. At a time when African-Americans were slaves, and education was forbidden, he taught them to read, so that they would have knowledge of the bible, and know God. Having become a dedicated Christian in his adult years, and humbled himself to become a deacon in the Presbyterian Church; putting service to others, ahead of himself. Caught-up in the conflicting visions that our founding fathers created, he chose to follow the traditional Southern vision, that our country, was really, just a collection, a league, or confederation, of sovereign states, or nations. This was wrong, but believed correct by many, the flash point of this error, was the institution of slavery, which he did not approve of, yet he held to the "States Rights" view. When war came, he stayed true to what he believed, was the way, government should be organized, and administered. His loyalty, was first to Virginia, then to the federal government, till the breach over slavery, sent the nation into the abyss. He was an excellent, officer, and Christian man, who was a person of great character. In the end, he would die in battle, for a cause, that did not stand the test, because it was morally flawed, in a critical way that could not be remedied. The repugnant practice of slavery, was, and is so offensive, to freemen, That the other issues of states rights versus a strong federal government, were totally eclipsed, While Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson, lived and died, like a principle in a Greek tragedy, He still serves as an example

Honestly, this should not even be an isssue, the war is over and Lincoln forgave the south so why can't people who had nothing to do with it forgive the past and leave it alone.
