On Thursday 04/18/2024 the NHL announced that they had approved the sale of the Arizona Coyotes and the subsequent immediate relocation to Salt Lake City. The Coyotes AHL affiliate Tucson Roadrunners were not part of the sale and would remain with Alex Mureulo, the former owner of the Coyotes.

The following day Alex Mureulo announced his intention to relocate the Tucson Roadrunners to the Mullet Arena in Tempe, AZ where the Coyotes previously played.

At this point there are numerous logistical obstacles to overcome before the Roadrunners can relocate. Among them;

-Contracts with the City of Tucson, the arena, the Rio Nuevo board.

-Contracts with the Mullet Arena in Tempe, Arizona State University.

-The AHL Board of Directors also need to approve any relocations and they will meet in May.

-Finally, the almost 2,000 Season Ticket Members and thousands of Roadrunners fans in the city of Tucson and the surrounding areas, including Phoenix want to keep the Roadrunners in the city of Tucson.

The intent of this petition is to raise awareness of the potential loss of professional AHL hockey in the city of Tucson, to notify ownership and the City of Tucson, and the AHL of our opposition to any relocation, and ultimately to KEEP THE TUCSON ROADRUNNERS IN TUCSON.

Why would you send the roadrunners to Phoenix or Tempe when they showed they had little loyalty. Tucson shows up for the team and why are we being punished for Phoenix/Tempe not showing up for the coyotes. Youre also taking away a lot of jobs in Tucson

The Roadrunners should stay in Tucson! The community loves hockey and it's thanks to the Roadrunners we have a fledgeling youth hockey program that our daughters both have participated in. Without professional hockey, we lose our momentum.

The roadrunners they belong to Tucson is one of the best things we have in town we don’t want them to move to phx or any other place they are people who come from Nogales Arizona and Nogales Sonora Mexico to come see the roadrunners hockey team !

There is no reason to take a hockey team from a unique market where it is contributing to the love and growth of hockey and transplant it to a place where it will be a secondary tenant and only be seen as a slap in the face and reminder of what was lost.

You know what you have in Tucson. Do you know your Tempe fan base? Just the fact they are Tucson makes Phoenix hate them already. Same as U of A does not mix well with Arizona State fans. There is some hatred between the two cities.

Keep the RoadRunners in Tucson! My oldest son and I bond over hockey, but our family is stationed at Fort Huachuca, so the RoadRunners are the closest team we can attend games. If they move to Phoenix, we cannot come out to games to support the team. Meep Meep!
