We oppose the proposal of splitting PHS counselor Mr. Minh Tran between
Marshall and PHS. Mr. Tran services far more students
than he is assigned because he is committed to the success of all PHS students.
In addition, as the Puente Project counselor, GCA counselor, National Honor
Society advisor, California Scholarship Federation advisor, and Varsity Golf
Coach he is essential to PHS in a full time capacity.
Splitting the counselor will
short-change the students and families at both campuses. Mr. Tran's job is all
encompassing and cannot be divided. It is this type of decision
that drives people away from the public school. In times of declining
enrollment we should be supporting the staff that bring in families, keep
students engaged, and encourage success. We strengthen the school by shoring up
outstanding staff and we weaken it terribly by attenuating them.
Please do not finalize this proposal and keep Mr. Tran at PHS full time for
all of the students!
Mr. Tran helped my two children going to good universities, and he led my third child to choose appropriate courses in his senior year and encouraged him not to give up. Every time I visited him, he welcomed me and spent much time discussing about my children.
