The town council just confirmed the implementation of additional patrols and restricted parking zones effective immediately. I am currently coordinating with the local department to ensure these new enforcement measures are applied consistently throughout the summer. Thank you for maintaining the pressure that forced this policy change.

Large groups of teenagers have been gathering at Burke’s beach . There have been serious public safety concerns among residents and beach visitors. Underage drinking , fights among groups of teens , swimming well under the influence, harassing children , adults. Many of these teens are dropped at the beach early am and picked up late day - unaccompanied for the entire day. They consistently leave their trash. Additionally speeding on Beach street, Marginal St and Bay Avenue have become a serious public safety issue / endangerment.

The beach is to be enjoyed by all and protected by the town . Beach rules need to be enforced to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all .

Public Safety Concerns:

Underage drinking

Violence / large groups fighting

Swimming under the influence

Unaccompanied minors at beach all day

Harassment- verbally attacking residents and beach guest

Not abiding by beach rules putting additional stress on lifeguards

Speeding - endangerment to small children and residents ( Marginal St ,Beach St, and Bay Ave )

Parking - parking anywhere and everywhere - need more resident only parking signs and to be enforced .

Damaging Dunes

The increase in support has captured the attention of local town officials who have requested a formal meeting to discuss these safety concerns. I am currently drafting a briefing document that outlines the specific issues on Beach Street and the surrounding areas to present during our session.

This underage drinking is dangerous and makes the job of the lifeguards beyond difficult. Saving a drowning victim is beyond difficult. Saving someone that has been drinking can be almost impossible. Adolescent and adult alcohol use is involved in up to 70% of deaths associated with water recreation. 1 in 4 emergency department visits for non-fatal drowning incidents.

We need to have parents to step forward and take responsibility for their teen’s behavior on the beach. All it takes is one parent to stop their child from underage drinking and you will be surprise other parents will follow. Their your children and you need to become their parent!

It is of significant importance for all to have to abide by the rules and regulations put forth by the town of Marshfield. No one should be exempt. Our tax dollars need to be put to good use to ensure the health and safety standards at our beaches. After all, that is the major driver that Marshfield has going for it and why so many love to live and visit this town.

It is evident that the dunes at Burke's beach are being ruined and there is zero accountability for following the beach rules. All it will take is having police doing checkins and setting expectations. There also needs to be more trash cans.

There was a syringe found on Marginal Street and by the bridge on Beach Street. I have a young child and this is not acceptable!

Unruly and disrespectful teenagers are being allowed to yell profanities and openly fight and drink on the beach all day. Not one sign of a patrol car all weekend (5/22) until police were finally called sunday night.

We need to keep our beaches and community safe and clean! Please also encourage all businesses by the beach to use only sustainable containers. I'm tired of picking up red plastic straws and left behind trash from inconsiderate folks. Take what you come with don't leave it behind! Respect Mother Nature and the Ocean. It's sad that we are now eating plastic because of this behaviors. Thank you for the petition.

I understand this BBB Bad Beach Behavior is happening all along the shore. We need the support from law enforcement and the parents of these kids. This both dangerous and unacceptable behavior.
