Petition to Retain Lindsay Ruoff as SUN Site Manager at D. A. Grout Elementary
On May 23rd the Portland City Council and Mayor voted in favor of a budget which will cut 50-60 positions from Portland Parks & Recreation. Lindsay Ruoff (aka Teacher Lindsay), Grout’s Portland Parks and Rec. (PP&R) site manager could lose her job to another employee whose position is cut within the Parks department. We, the Grout community, feel like the real losers in this scenario. For over 10 years, Lindsay has worked with Grout students and staff as a PP&R SUN instructor and Portland Public Schools education assistant at Grout before becoming the site manager here. Her work has had an extremely positive effect on countless students and families. During that time, Lindsay has welcomed new Grout families into their school community, taught countless classes in SUN after school and SUN summer camp, and has worked in-depth with students to support their academic achievement during the school day.
Because Lindsay has been part of Grout for so many years, she knows our families and staff well and has worked with many of our children, brothers, and sisters of varying ages. In her first year as SUN site manager, she has worked to build a staff that reflects the diverse student body. This includes hiring a new SUN instructor who was a 5th grader at Grout during her first year as a SUN instructor in 2009, which is a testament to her long-term dedication to our school. She acts with a focus on equity, intention, and collaboration to make SUN a program that celebrates the Grout community.
Lindsay has worked tirelessly to support our students and families, and we ask that you let her continue her work. Grout Elementary School loves and supports Lindsay Ruoff and asks that she retains her position as Grout’s SUN site manager.

Lindsay has been an important resource for me with the Garden program with a consistent eye on collaboration and authentic relationships with everyone she engages with at Grout. It's clear that her dedication to the school is a huge asset and one that would be sincerely missed. Please make sure she can be with us for years to come!
She has been instrumental in helping support my son who is ASD at Grout and she knows him to find the right supports for his ability to thrive in community programs and school. She is vital to helping many families.
Lindsay has devoted 10 years to our school. We rarely acknowledge the impact and importance of the non-teachers who are integral to our children’s education. Lindsay knows our kids and our families and we need her- not just another person who could do her job- in our school, managing our SUN program!
We love Teacher Lindsay!! She was my 8 year old’s kindergarten assistant teacher, we love her as the SUN school coordinator. She greets you as a friend and knows all the kids and parents by name. She’s amazing and it would be a great detriment to Grout to lose her!
Lindsay works to make the SUN program at Grout a true community experience for the students and staff involved. She goes beyond making a program run to making it an inclusive space for our beautifully diverse community. Her role could not be adequately filled by another PP&R employee who is not a part of the Grout community and school.
Lindsay is a real asset to the Grout school family and she should be allowed to continue as the SUN coordinator at Grout. Thank you
It is our sincere hope that Lindsay Ruoff will remain as the SUN site supervisor at Grout Elementary. She has been at Grout for 10 years in varying roles and really knows the students, families and staff. Her presence in the school is vital to the continuation of the successful SUN programs at Grout Elementary. Her loss would be Significant for the school and its SUN programs as well as all the people here who benefit from SUN’s programs. For our Drama Programs at Grout, Lindsay has been an invaluable help and supporter. Please keep Lindsay as the Site Manager at Grout Elementary! Michael Wehrli Grout Elementary Drama Program

Lindsay has worked at Grout for over 10 years. She understands the needs of the diverse student body at Grout and works hard to make sure that The SUN program is educational, fun, and constantly changing. Losing her would be a huge loss for the school.
