I am a lightweigt rower, and I find it extremely annoying and disappointing when against the heavyweights.

Why even propose this? What's the downside? I only see a great opportunity that could be wasted if this go through.

Kids who way under 150 just can't compete with a kid 180+..... let's keep a level playing field for all

Absolutely - this sport needs to keep the light-weight school programs. There can be a huge discrepancy between athletes in their teens depending on growth spurts etc. I have always admired the fairness of opportunities in this sport. In my opinion, taking out the LWT category in high school would be a poor decision and a sad day for rowing.

There are safe ways to allow lightweight rowing in high school. Kicking kids out of the sport is not a solution.

Unfair to all the smaller individuals that wish to row and will not be able to make the heavier weight class boats because of their size. Keep lightweight rowing.

Is RCA giving up on Canada ever being competitive internationally in lwt boats? What will happen to the development pool with no high school programs fostering new lwt rowers? How can this help improve or even maintain participation in the sport at the high school level?

At my daughter's school, she had the choice of rowing light or heavy weight. During her 4 years, there were no mid-weight rowers, If not for the light-weight program, she would not have rowed. Rowing is a tremendous confidence building opportunity for young petite stature girls.

Used to row back in high-school. Keeping lightweight rowing in high schools allows for more young students to participate in this one of a kind sport that teaches dedication, persistence and the value of teamwork. I don't see why you would want to exclude certain students participating in their proper weight class, that's just not fair.

Keeping lightweight rowing in high schools will allow more young people who may not meet the heavier weight races to compete, learn this great sport and move on in more competitive rowing.

My daughter was a lightweight rower in high school, she loved it. It had many benefits and is a great physical activity. I too enjoyed the early mornings at the pond watching the sun come up ... Keep this category not very one can be a heavy weight rower!

I rowed lightweight in high school and it was awesome. There are a number of skinny teenaged rowers who would be, wait for it, up the creek without a paddle, if you took out the lightweight category.
Don't do it.

I personally rowed in the lightweight division, and strongly encourage that this to stay as it allows more students to participate in the sport, many of which wouldn't have the opportunity if this division is eliminated.

When there is a reasonable sport that doesn't kill a pocket book, encourages fitness, builds character bonding and teamwork why would you take it away. Think of this level of sport in the highschool age group most may never want to row again after. Most want to be with friends and a feeling of belonging. Be the bigger person and continue the tradition of all kids are on an equal playing ground. Don't segregate! Don't decrease the fun they have and the confidence that gets built!

If you have ever rowed or been involved with the rowing community, you would know that taking away the lightweight category for high school rowers is unfair, and creates an unequal playing field for the future of rowing.

My girlfriend fits into the light weight for rowing and she loves it and she said if I didn’t sign this she’ll become depressed and die and who really wants that.
