On March 12, 2018 Town of Kentville staff recommended to change traffic and parking in Kentville once again. It has been proposed to make Webster Street one lane and eliminate parking spaces along the street. This to add bike lanes instead.
You can imagine how devastating this would be for downtown business and the confusion and congestion created for those who rely on our roads for everyday life.

UPDATE - April 8th, 2018
This petition, without any outside promotion, has reached the 330 mark after just one week. The petition has been forwarded to Kentville Town Council today so that opposing views will be considered at the March 9th council meeting where this issue is on the agenda. Your attendance at this council meeting would be very helpful in demonstrating a strong opposing public. Please help spread the word. The meeting starts at 6pm Monday April 9th. Thank you!

Town council formally rejected the staff recommendation and killed this misguided staff led initiative. The petition mattered and your voice made a difference. Thank you.

This is by far the worst idea yet for Kentville, Please do not let Recreation Departments drive economic planning issues, use the old railway bed like you should have from the beginning and like every other town in Nova scotia has
If traffic is reduced to 1 lane I will avoid Kentville. I go through town at least 4 times a day to get to work. I will be taking the connector to get to work if this happens. Which means any items I need to pick up after work will be bought in New Mina's. Sorry Kentville :(
As one of many seniors in the town I am shocked and appalled with the recent proposal. We seniors, many of whom have mobility issues, need convenience and ease of access to downtown businesses. Please remember the senior population so predominate in town.
There is already too much congestion along Webster street. Reducing it to 1 lane would be a nightmare. Could not a bike lane be added to the bus lane 1 block down? Much better use of space and does not impede traffic.
What a ridiculous idea. What happens when a delivery truck has to stop in the only lane now available and stop traffic and make it back up etc. Example, the Tim Hortons truck usually makes 2 trips with the pallets. This has to be the worst idea.

I support the ideas of beautifying the downtown Kentville core as presented at the April 4th Town of Kentville meeting with the exception of the bike lane on Webster Street. I cannot support removing a traffic lane on Webster Street between Cornwallis Street and Aberdeen Street to put in a bike lane. I would support the second option mentioned (although not presented at the public meeting) with the bike lane situated on Station Lane. There was some discussion during the presentation of making Kentville a destination spot for cyclists. In my opinion, by moving forward with the beautification projects on Main and Webster Streets (excluding the bike lane on Webster Street), Kentville could become a destination spot not only for cyclists but for all travellers to the Annapolis Valley. I fear that the loss of a traffic lane on Webster Street would restrict the traffic flow, and end up discouraging those whom the beautifying was trying to attract in the first place.

This is a terrible idea. Kentville already has limited space. People get confused enough driving through kentville. Dilivery trucks will have a hard time getting through and this would more then likely hold up traffic. I’m a biker myself and I think it’s a terrible idea.
