For a few years now, the Times Square Alliance has invited artists such as Cee Lo Green and Melissa Etheridge to sing John Lennon's iconic song, "Imagine" as part of the New Year's Eve celebration. It seems that more often that not, these artists do not really capture the beauty and simplicity of the message of the song. Often these artists will also take artistic license and change the words, or just not be up to singing the song well (it is a very difficult song to sing).
We would like to get enough signatures to go before the alliance and tell them that we do not want other artists to sing "Imagine" and just let John sing every year via the video of he and Yoko walking around a house and sitting at a white piano singing the song. No one can capture the meaning of the song like John and no one sings the song as beautifully as he does. If the alliance wants to have artists sing a signature song on New Year's Eve, why not have them sing "New York, New York" by Frank Sinatra. An admittedly easier song to sing.

Only John can sing 'Imagine', his song. And in the city he loved and lived. No other artist can capture the beauty & soul of this song, & often end up screaming the lyrics or changing the melody. Please bring back John Lennon singing 'Imagine'. A visual would be wonderful. Other songs that follow are sung by the original artists; why not this?
I believe the no one other then John Lennon should ever perform Imagine.

I agree with those on the petition - there is only one John Lennon - and only one true Imagine. His words, his song, written and sung in the city he loved most. His words have touched many lives. "Former US President Jimmy Carter said, "in many countries around the world—my wife and I have visited about 125 countries—you hear John Lennon's song 'Imagine' used almost equally with national anthems." " Rolling Stone described Imagine as Lennon's "greatest musical gift to the world". The US and NYC were lucky to have had his presence. It is only fitting that his universal message of love and unity is played from where he considered his home.
