November 19, 2012. 

      Our current superintendent Dr. Bearden, will leave the Fayette County school system at the end of December.  Dr. Bearden submitted a redistricting plan to help a budget shortfall for the next school year.  His plan includes closing Fayette Middle School.  If FMS closes, the entire north eastern, east, and central areas of Fayette County will have to fit into just one middle school.  Former FMS students would attend Bennett's Mill Middle School. 

      BMMS would immediately fill to 100% capacity.  Along with a nearly full northern Flat Rock Middle and southern Whitewater Middle, all middle school classrooms in Fayette County would sit close to capacity.  Within a few short years, Fayette County will begin growing again and need more middle school capacity.  When growth begins, we don't need to spend tax payer money building another middle school after just closing one down!

 The home owners below are asking our Superintendent and the five Fayette County Board of Education members to keep Fayette Middle School open.  The questionable cost savings do not justify closing this large community's school.  Do not combine two huge middle school districts into one.  Prevent another buliding crisis in a few short years.  Preserve the wishes of two communities.
