I recently came across two different "shops" on etsy that were selling the exact same products - obviously from a factory. They appeared to be well made and not cheap materials, but I still feel poorly for artists trying to compete with the extremely low prices of large-grade production items.
I've been a seller on Etsy for a few years now. It's been disappointing to see Etsy turn a blind eye to the number of mass produced items being sold. Etsy's supposed to be a place for handmade goods and for sellers with original one of a king pieces.
I have been an Etsy seller for years and am proud that ALL our items are handmade by my husband, my daugher and myself. Mass produced, manufactured items should be sold on Ebay or elsewhere. The world needs a place where artists and artisans can sell their work and have a chance for success.
Etsy is a privately owned company and as such has the right to look after their interests, but the transition to mass manufacturing has left many of the people who helped build Etsy into what it is feeling betrayed.
Absolutely! I've been finding more and more mass warehouse produced stores, masking as handmade! There are enough other online selling sites for those, we need to keep this handmade and Vintage, that is what has always been so special about Etsy...that's why I opened a shop there!

Etsy will sell ANYTHING for profit... One would assume that these are a group of people sitting in their homes making a few extra dollars... Well that is not true. They sold shirts promoting rape, sexual abuse and elder abuse and they sell items made elephant ivory... Shop your conscious and boycott Etsy. Elephant is obtained illegaly. The elephant whole face cut off and her babies are standing there left without a mother....Etsy allows Elephant Ivory to be sold on their site... Elephants are among the world’s most intelligent, sensitive animals and possess both empathy and self‐awareness. They live in close family groups that are now being torn apart by a new wave of poaching that has swept across Africa due to a growing demand for ivory. More than 33,000 African elephants are killed each year.

I have been selling my completely handmade items on Etsy for nine years. I am a successful seller but my customers this year don't even understand that what they are buying is handmade-to-order. My revenue thru Etsy has plunged this year.
