Elmira (NY) Fire Department is selling their last American LaFrance Fire truck. I have made this petition to help keep the American LaFrance Fire truck in Elmira. Even if it's at the local history museum. American LaFrance started in Elmira NY. They moved to South Carolina in the 1980's. Even with the company gone the history of the company lives on across the country. Just last year the company closed up for good. So with the fire dept where it all started the best thing to do is keep the truck in Elmira.

I was a weldor there in the 60s and early 70s, favorite job there was building the superstructure for the ladder thucks.
I worked at american lafrance for 18 years. I worked on installing lights. I would love for this last fire truck to stay here locally!
Don't mean to rain on your parade but this vintage of ladders has had 'issues'. For decades the ladders were made of CORTEN high-tensile and yield steel that is also ''4 to 6 times more resistant'' to rust and/or corrosion than mild steel. Years from approx. 76 thru approx. 81 are the suspect years. AS SOMEONE WHO HAD 3 LADDERS FAIL WITH THIS VINTAGE, JUST WANT YOU TO BE AWARE OF WHAT YOU'RE WORKING WITH.
it's a nice part of this city's history. the truck should stay in Elmira.
Please allow the spirit of ALF to live on with this truck where it all began.
Keep this in elmira this truck is part of the history of the area... do the right thing don't sell it.
